A blog is short for “web log” and is a type of website that is continually updated with new “posts” or entries on a particular topic.
So what is the big deal with blogs?
Blogs give people, like you, the power of the media to publish and interact with an audience.
A defining characteristic of a blog is displaying posts in reverse-chronological order. When a reader views a blog, the newest entry is displayed first. Categories, tags and archives make older posts easy to find.
Another feature common to blogs is the ability for readers to interact with the writer, who is more commonly known as the blogger. Readers can post comments, feedback or questions at the end of each post to, in effect, have a conversation with the author and other readers.
As a blogger starts to build relationships with readers and other bloggers they can exchange links, which builds a blog’s popularity and rank in the search engines.
The possibilities for blog topics are endless. The most popular and common blogs include personal journals/diaries, business blogs, news commentary, political blogs, niche topics, travel blogs, podcasts (audio blogs), or photo blog.
